Sierra City Main Street
Sierra City Main Street - A quiet, old gold rush town at the base of the Sierra Buttes, Sierra City offers a true California experience, complete with original historic structures. As you drive through the narrow streets, you will view private homes dating back to the gold rush and early American eras of settlement. Sierra City offers quaint stores and cafes, including a general store, a miner's emporium, post office, and historic churches. Enjoy an outdoor table at one of the cafes. Walk through the heart of town and into the past as you enjoy architecture dating from 1871. |

Tahoe National Forest
Tahoe National Forest - Straddling the crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in northern California, Tahoe National Forest covers an enormous territory of rugged beauty. The forest is divided into four districts: Yuba River, American River, Sierraville, and Truckee. The Yuba River district is nearest to Sierra City. Many trails, including the famous Pacific Crest Trail, offer hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and ATV driving. Opportunities to see stunning scenery and the beautiful Sierra mountain range are abundant and the best reasons to visit the forest. |

Downieville
Visit Downieville - The main street in Downieville is lined with trees and leads to some of the oldest structures and historical sites of all the gold rush towns in California. Pick up a self-guided walking tour brochure and view the gallows (a reminder and site of justice in the Gold Rush era), visit the schoolhouse built in 1872, see the original catholic church built in 1858, and go back in time in a town that dates back to 1849. |
